In my 4th semester, I made a mistake that led to my academic downfall — getting too caught up in distractions. When my results came in, I was staring at four backlogs. The shock was real. Friends teased me about narrowly avoiding a year back, and my father, who had always seen me as a top student, couldn’t believe it. It felt like everything was falling apart.

The Low Point

It all started when I got my first smartphone. PUBG Mobile was at its peak, and I got completely hooked. My addiction was so severe that I barely attended classes that semester — my attendance was just 3%. Nights were spent playing with friends on Discord, and even during final exams, I played until 5 or 6 in the morning. I’d quickly skim through notes on my way to the exam hall, scribble down whatever I could in the first hour, and then sleep through the rest of the exam.

I wasn’t even good at the game — I was just addicted. Deep down, I knew I’d fail that semester and had already come to terms with it before the results were out. But when the results actually came, it hit me hard. I wasn’t just failing one or two subjects — I had four backlogs. The reality sank in: I’d have to explain this to my parents, face the judgment of my peers, and somehow handle 10 exams…
